Sex and the City 3 planned to kill off Mr Big with a big portion of the film staging Carrie Bradshaw's grief. Big, who was a divisive character for many, was reportedly going to die following an early heart attack.
The film was halted after Kim Cattrall declined to resume her role of Samantha, a decision that sparked a much-publicised feud between Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker.
'People close to Kim believe the script didn’t have a lot to offer Samantha,' said producer, and writer James Miller in his Origins podcast. 'They point to the fact that it calls for Mr Big to die of a heart attack in the shower relatively early on, making the remainder of the movie more about how Carrie recovers from Big’s death than about the relationships between the four women.'
Chris Noth, who plays Big in both the series and both films, says he hated certain scenes, specifically in which he proposed to Carrie in a walk-in wardrobe than he'd built for her, holding a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes. He hadn't seen the script for the third film, but concedes that he would have been on board.
'I really hate corny stuff, and it could be because I’m a little bit of a cynic,' he said in the podcast. Like, the whole thing at the end of the movie in the shoe closet – hated it.
'I felt she deceived me and then I say, "Well, it’s time I give you a bigger diamond ring." Hated it. I just hate the cornball shit and I thought it was just really sentimental and overly romantic without any feet in realism.'
