Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus had their first public date night as newlyweds this weekend at the G'Day USA Gala in Los Angeles. Hemsworth gave red carpet interviews ahead of the event, and he took questions from Extra on his and Cyrus's December 23 wedding.

The two were reported to be planning their wedding as early as March last year, but Hemsworth says the actual timeline was much shorter. They didn't spend months planning their small wedding for friends and family at Cyrus's Nashville, Tennessee home. It was just kind of spontaneous, Hemsworth said.

'It wasn’t hard [putting together the wedding]—we have a small group of friends,' he said. 'It was mainly immediate family, a spur-of-the-moment kind of thing. I am very happy to be where I am.'

The newlywed life doesn't present a big change either, Hemsworth added, calling it 'the same but different. We’ve been together for the better part of 10 years.'

Hemsworth had many glowing words to say about Cyrus at that event. To Extra, Hemsworth said of Cyrus, 'I feel very lucky to be with her.'

And on stage when he was accepting his award, he gave her a particularly sweet shoutout. 'Thank you to my beautiful wife. You are a sweet, sweet angel. You're great.'

As for Cyrus, she posted a video of the speech to her Twitter, along with her mouthing to Hemsworth 'talk more about me' as he moved on to thanking his parents.
