The Beverly Hills Hotel, where Marilyn Monroe used to stay, has opened a luxury bungalow inspired by the screen icon. The makeover is part of a wider hotel restoration, in which five of its historic bungalows have been decorated according to Hollywood visitors, including Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra.
Masterminded by Champalimaud Design, Bungalow 1 is reflective of Monroe's glamorous, playful persona, with curvy furniture, bright and abstract floor coverings, colourful travertine stones, and gold-leafed ceilings. Strong Jean Michel Frank influences pay homage to her use of his designs in her own home, including extensive use of parchment.
Guests will also be supplied with a Chanel No5 fragrance bar and bath products - the actress' signature scent, a library featuring classic Marilyn Monroe films and books, including Norman Mailer Marilyn Monroe Bert Stern and Andre de Dieme, Some like it Hot, and Gentleman Prefer Blondes and a bottle of Dom Perignon.
Even the food menu has a Monroe twist, inspired by an interview that appeared in the 1952 issue of Pageant magazine in which she revealed the following: 'My dinners at home are startlingly simple. Every night I stop at the market near my hotel and pick up a steak, lamb chops or liver, which I broil in the electric oven in my room. I usually eat four or five raw carrots with my meat and that is all.' She also revealed that she occasionally treated herself to an ice cream sundae.
Items from Marilyn’s Menu include prawn cocktail, heirloom carrot salad, DiMaggio’s spaghetti and meatballs, grilled New York steak, and Marilyn’s ice cream sundae.
