Emeli Sandé is back, and ready to (once again) take the pop world by storm.
Earlier this month, the Scottish soul singer returned with a new anthem, 'Sparrow.' The track marks her first solo music in two years, and tackles low self-esteem and shaken identity (thanks social media). The lyrics aim to 'uplift and inspire' in the dark times facing the world.
In 2012, Sandé was flung into stardom with the success of her debut album, Our Version of Events. Over the following year she was, quite literally, everywhere. From singing on tracks by her producer Naughty Boy, Rudimental, David Guetta, and Tinie Tempah, to performing at the White House for Barack Obama.
And now? Well now she’s premiering the video to her latest track, Sparrow', exclusively on ELLE.com/uk.
Directed by Sarah McColgan (the woman behind Charli XCX, Miguel, Sean Paul etc) and edited by Ernie Gilbert (of This Is America and Atlanta fame), the video explores themes of strength, movement and freedom. It also looks great, too. Shot in New York, watch as singers and dancers take to rooftops swaddled in blood-red scarves. It's a powerful three minutes.
'I loved Sarah's idea as soon as I saw it and I feel so proud of what we were all able to create together,' says Sandé.
'Each woman in this video has their own unique strength and there was a real sense of sisterhood felt throughout the shoot. It’s always exciting filming in New York, it brings a very special electric energy which kept us powered up all day. Even in the snow!'
