It's not all that easy being the Mother of Dragons in Westeros at the moment and sometimes it can be just as difficult being Emilia Clarke on the streets of London, at least according to the Daenerys Targaryen actress.

With just two episodes of Game of Thrones' final season left to air, the actress has opened up in a new interview about how sometimes the public attention gets too much, explaining that she often tries to not get recognised on the street in a bid to 'lead a normal life'.

'I move like a shark when I'm in public,' Emilia told Allure Magazine. 'Head down. I think I've got quite bad posture because of it, because I'm determined to lead a normal life. So I just move too quickly for anyone to register if it's me or not.

'And I don't walk around with six security men and big sunglasses and a bizarre coat. I really try to meld in.'

Emilia added that for the first few seasons of the hit HBO show, she was able to fly under the radar a lot more – mostly due to the fact that Daenerys has long, blonde hair and Emilia doesn't – but as the popularity of the series grew to huge levels, more and more people began to recognise her.

And as for why the show has proven so successful, Emilia has her theories on that too.

'I think it caught Western society at exactly the right moment,' she explained. 'I don't know about you, but when I watch something, it's escapism. I'm feeling crappy; I'm just sad, moody, depressed, upset, angry, whatever it is.

'I know that distraction is what makes me get better. Distraction is what really, really helps me.'

Game of Thrones fans can continue to be distracted by the series when it continues with its fifth episode this weekend, with recent first-look pictures promising bad news for Daenerys at the Battle for King's Landing.
