What do you wear to meet the Trump family? A classic yet stunning Alexander McQueen dress, if you're Kate Middleton. The Duchess of Cambridge looked elegant in white at the Queen's state banquet for President Donald Trump and gang.

She also sported her Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara, and the Queen Mother's sapphire and diamond earrings. Eagle-eyed fans will have also spotted the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order sash, which Kate wore for the first time over her dress.

The Duchess was given that honour from the Queen last year, which recognises her achievements as a working royal. The yellow ribbon she is wearing is for the Royal Family Order.

Arrived with Prince William, Kate joined other royal guests such as Prince Charles at the celebration. Her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, did not attend the event because she's on maternity leave. Both Kate and Meghan didn't attend the luncheon yesterday between the Queen, Prince Harry, other royals, and members of the Trump family.

According to the BBC, the Duchess of Cambridge is unlikely to have been seen in public wearing a tiara before her wedding because they're reserved for married women or members of the Royal Family.

'Flashy diamonds and tiaras are not worn during the day, and only married ladies wear tiaras. For married ladies it was a sign of status and would show you were taken and not looking for a husband.

'For the gentleman it was a clear sign not to make advances toward the lady in question.'
