Killing Eve is officially coming back to our screens after season two of the hit spy drama came to end an end last summer.

In February, the BBC confirmed that the third series of the show is on its way in 2020, meaning we'll soon get an answer as to what really happened following Villanelle (former ELLE UK cover star Jodie Comer) and Eve's (Sandra Oh) stand-off, which saw the former MI5 left for dead after the deadly assassin opened fire on her in the season 2 finale.

What happened to the pair following the tense scene is anyone's guess, but the BBC – and the series' cast – are finally spilling gossip about the hit series and what to expect from season 3.

Here's everything you need to know about Killing Eve season 3:

What happened at the end of Killing Eve Season 2?

The final episode of the second season of the show aired on the BBC on July 27, leaving fans dying to know what the third season would bring.

After Villanelle and Eve began working together this season to bring down eerily creepy tech entrepreneur Aaron Peel, things went awry in the final episode when the two protagonists were left with no one but each other.

That was until, of course, the final scene. Unlike season 2 when Villanelle's life hung in the balance at the hands of Eve, the roles were reversed and it was Eve who was left lying on the ground among Roman ruins.

Will Eve even feature in the third series? Well, read on to find out more.

Is season 3 of Killing Eve confirmed?

Shortly after the first episode of season two premiered in the US in April, BBC America announced that the programme was being renewed 'right out of the gate'.

Charlotte Moore, BBC director of content, said at the time: 'It's fantastic news that there will be a third series of this award winning hit drama and we're delighted UK audiences will be able to see Killing Eve exclusively on the BBC.'

Is there a trailer for Killing Eve season 3?

Sort of! On Friday (28th February), the Killing Eve Twitter and Instagram accounts shared a 15-second teaser trailer starring just the two leading protagonists, Comer and Oh.

Dressed in blood-red, elegant tulle dresses, the clip changes between showing the co-stars in their dramatic gowns, sometimes linking arms, before interspersing it with a side-profile of comer playing with some sort of scalpel.

For maximum impact, the clip is choreographed to the timing of Händel Messiah's 'Hallelujah Chorus'.

The clip ends with Comer giving an iconic Vilanelle snare - while still holding what we presume to be some sort of killing device - before a big bold reminder of the show's season 3 premiere date.

An earlier shorter teaser of this clip, set to the same music, showing Comer and Oh's faces was previously released on Valentine's Day.

Who will the cast of Killing Eve season 3 be?

Comer, Oh, Shaw and other series regulars aside, there's also some new names which have been added to the mix.

Harriet Walter and Danny Sapani, who both have starred in The Crown - as Clementine Churchill and former Ghanian prime minister Kwame Nkrumah, respectively - will join Killing Eve for the third season, Deadline reports. It's not yet known which characters they will portray.

On November 7, Entertainment Weekly reported how both some Game Of Thrones and Harry Potter alumni have also been cast in the third season of the BBC America drama.

From GOT there's Gemma Whelan aka Yar Greyjoy and from the wizarding world of Hogwarts, Predrag Bjelac - who fans will remember portrayed Igor Brand, the headmaster of he Durmstrang Institute, a rival wizarding school for the Triwizard Tournament in the Goblet of Fire film.

Who is writing season 3 of Killing Eve?

Phoebe Waller-Bridge was famously behind the writing of the show's debut series before handing over the reigns to her friend Emerald Fennell.

According to Deadline, British writer Suzanne Heathcote - who wrote Fear the Walking Dead - will be taking over next season as lead writer.

'I think it's cool that this tradition has been built into this untraditional show,' Fennell said of passing on the baton to another female writer. 'Inheriting some of Phoebe's characters was a treat - I can't wait to see what Suzanne does next.'

Along the same lines, Waller-Bridge said she's very excited for 'another incredible writer' to take the reigns from Fennell.

'We can sleep soundly knowing these characters are safe in Suzanne Heathcote's hilariously murderous hands,' she said.

Will Phoebe Waller-Bridge be in season 3 of Killing Eve?

Though Waller-Bridge is not writing the third season, she does still serve as an executive producer - like she did in season 2.

However, her involvement with the drama might not stop there, she recently revealed - explaining that she's very keen to play a character in the show.

'I was like, I am going to write myself a part so that I can be murdered by Jodie,' she told The Mirror.

She added in the initial stages of writing the first season, she was tempted to play either of the two leads yet then felt there needed to be a bigger age gap between the obsessive characters.

'I just had a really strong instinct that there should be this age gap because I just felt like it was something I hadn't seen,' she said. 'I'm not a 25-year-old Jodie Comer - I mean let's be frank. And I don't know if I could have scaled a wall quite like she could have done, and I'm not in my early 40s either.'

When will season 3 of Killing Eve air in the UK?

After initially being confirmed to return on April 26, BBC America announced that the series would be brought forward by two weeks.

The new date for the premiere of the third season in the UK is April 13 on BBC One, which will no doubt bring some joy for fans who are at home abiding by the social distancing and self-isolating measures put in place due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Season 3 will see Eve return after surviving being shot by Villanelle in the season two finale and living in Rome unbeknown to her attempted killer, according to Vulture.

'All seems fine until a shocking and personal death sets them on a collision course yet again,' adds Deadline.
