Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have rounded off a jam-packed week of events including their baby Archie's christening, a polo match and Wimbledon with a touch of glamour at the European premiere of The Lion King.

The Duchess of Sussex looked elegant, walking the gold carpet in a Jason Wu black dress with sheer sleeves, reportedly paired with her Gucci black clutch, while the Duke looked smart in a tuxedo.

The royal couple attended the star-studded event in Leicester Square on Sunday 14 July, where they chatted with fans and met actors from the film before heading inside for a sneak preview of the Disney remake.

Aside from the royal couple, another hugely anticipated appearance was from star of the film Beyoncé. She attended the London premiere with husband Jay-Z in a stunning floor length gold dress with bardot sleeves.

Beyoncé and Markle then met while the royal couple were greeting a line-up of those involved with the film, including Sir Elton John, Pharrell and Seth Rogen. The singer and the Duchess greeted each other with a long hug before chatting to each other, with their husbands Jay-Z and Prince Harry.

Both royal and pop culture fans were surely vying to spot an interaction between Markle and the singer: two extremely high-profile, talented women who have spoken out about their identity as American mixed-race and black women and the injustices faced by marginalised groups.

This is not the first time Beyoncé has conveyed her respect and admiration for the Duchess of Sussex. When receiving their BRIT award in February, Beyoncé and Jay-Z chose that moment to pay homage to Markle in their speech.

Explaining why they chose to accept the award for 'APESH*T' in front of a portrait of Markle, Beyoncé said on Instagram it was a way of 'bowing down' to 'one of our Melanated Monas' to mark Black History Month.

The Carters also used the opportunity to congratulate the Duchess of Sussex on her pregnancy.

According to Markle's make-up artist Daniel Martin, her response to the video tribute was both thrilled and taken aback, responding to Martin with a simple yet effective 'big eye emoji' when he sent it to her.

The Sussexes attended the premiere as it was in support of the conservation and communities work of Prince Harry and the Royal Foundation.

For the release of the new film starring Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé as Nala - a remake of the 1994 classic animation - Disney have announced a global conservation campaign - 'Protect the Pride' - to raise awareness and protect the endangered and dwindling lion population in Africa which the Royal Foundation will support.

'Through the work of His Royal Highness, the Royal Foundation is committed to advancing community conservation efforts across Africa and around the world, working with communities to ensure a sustainable future for the planet,' they said in a release.

Both Prince Harry, Markle and their baby boy Archie will visit Africa on a royal tour later this year.
