Friends' Lisa Kudrow has revealed that co-star Matthew Perry saved a sweet gift to give her when the show ended, as well as the story behind it.

Speaking to InStyle, the Phoebe Buffay star said that Perry surprised her by gifting her Monica and Rachel's cookie jar – and to this day she still proudly displays the item in her office.

The cookie jar had a fake clock painted on the front, and the prop became a long-running joke between the two stars following a blooper.

The short version is, there was a scene in Monica and Rachel's apartment where Phoebe suddenly remembered that she had to leave. Kudrow wasn't wearing a watch, and so she improvised and instead instinctively pointed to the clock-face cookie jar when she said her line.

"When the scene ended, Matthew came over to me with this weird little smile on his face," Kudrow said. "He said, 'Did you just do what I think you did? Did you gesture to the cookie jar as if it were an actual working clock?'.

"And we all started cracking up because it was maybe the dumbest thing I'd ever done. I don't know if I've ever laughed so hard."

Kudrow continued by saying that the gift from Perry was an emotional moment for her.

"On the last week of filming, Matthew actually gave me the cookie jar as a wrap gift," she explained. "Everything on the set was technically owned by Warner Bros, so he had to ask special permission to take it. And that alone meant so much to me.

"When I look at the jar, I just start to laugh because it reminds me of how much fun we had on set every single day for ten years."

The show recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, but anyone still holding out for a reunion series may be disappointed to know that co-creator Marta Kauffman recently denied any speculation of a reboot or revival happening.

Friends is streaming now on Netflix.
