Congratulations to Zendaya, who made history overnight by winning her first Emmy.

The 24-year-old won the Best Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her portrayal of Rue in Euphoria, making her the youngest actress ever to win the prize.

The Disney alum won in a highly competitive category, seeing off competition from fellow esteemed actresses: Olivia Colman, Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Oh, Laura Linney and Jodie Comer - who previously set the record as the youngest actress to win in this group.

As well as making history for her young age, Zendaya is also only the second Black woman ever to win this particular award. Viola Davis iconically became the first in 2015, for her show How To Get Away With Murder.

The 72nd Emmys also saw the most prizes ever given to Black actors, with seven actors taking home awards from major categories. Included in this seven is Oscar winner Regina King for her show Watchman and Uzo Aduba for Mrs America.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Emmy's looked pretty different this year. Chat show host Jimmy Kimmel hosted the biggest night in TV from a pretty much empty studio, occasionally welcoming guests from a social distance but mainly introducing winners via multiple Zoom links.

Zendaya spent the night with her family at home, who were all sat behind her and subsequently jumped off the sofas in joy when her win was announced by Kimmel back in the studio.

Struggling to contain her emotion, Zendaya - who looked incredible in a custom Armani Prive gown - said she 'doesn't really cry' before tearing up and thanking her nearest and dearest.

'I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there,' the actress said while clutching her new award. 'I want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, I see you, I admire you, I thank you.'

We love to see it. Congratulations, Zendaya!
