Selena Gomez has criticised legal drama, The Good Fight over a line about her kidney transplant.
The 29-year-old issued a tweet on Tuesday (August 3rd) making it clear she had been alerted to a recent dialogue in the show which mentioned the kidney transplant she underwent in 2017 when one of her best friends Franca Raisa donated her kidney to Gomez - which she required due to her ongoing battle with the autoimmune condition lupus.
'I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently,' Gomez wrote.
'I hope in the next writer's room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it's called out immediately and doesn't make it on air.'
Gomez then thanked her fans for standing up for her and urged her 65 million followers to sign up to be an organ donor.
According to Variety, the line in question occurred during a scene depicting a brainstorming session for a television executive when one character noted topics that might be off-limits and subject to 'cancel culture', which they determine to be necrophilia, autism and 'Selena Gomez's kidney transplant'.
A source close to the show, which is a spin-off of the Emmy-award winning series starring Julianna Margulies and Chris Noth The Good Wife, suggested to the publication that the quote had been taken out of context saying: 'If you watch the episode in full, the reference to Selena Gomez is part of a discussion the characters are having about topics that are not okay to make fun of and the idea of cancel culture and being cancelled for telling a bad joke. The reference is that Selena Gomez’s transplant is not something you can joke about.'
The discussion followers an incident in November where the Saved By the Bell remake apologised to Gomez last year over a 'joke' about the transplant which was included in the show.
