He may be best known for his hilarious stand-up, podcasts, marrying Katy Perry, and his journey from addiction to recovery, but little did we know Russell Brand once locked lips with Meghan Markle.

During a recent episode of Loose Women, the comedian revealed he once kissed the royal bride-to-be way back in 2009.

But, before you start Googling images of Russell and Meghan enjoying late night dates, the father-of-one was quick to clear up rumours of a romance.

‘She was in a film that I was in — I had done a film, Get Him to the Greek, it was called, a bloody good film — Meghan Markle, didn’t know at the time because she wasn’t married to a royal person, so I wasn’t paying attention.’

Markle reportedly played partygoer Tatiana in the 2010 comedy.

He added: ‘Well I think in it, I don’t remember the film that much… but I think I planted one on her, I think, in the scene. But that was scripted in the scene. I only know this because I think I saw a clip of it somewhere.’

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star went on to imitate someone objecting to the couple’s royal wedding on Saturday.

‘Meghan Markle, there we go. “If anyone has any reason…”’ teased the father-of-one before adding, ‘“Yeah! Russell Brand snogged her in a film!”’ Never mind her bloody dad selling photos!’ he said referring to reports that Markle’s father had collaborated with the paparazzi to create ‘staged’ photos in recent weeks.

The news comes ahead of Kensington Palace’s most recent statement on behalf of the bride-to-be regarding her father's attendance, or lack there of, at this weekend's nuptials.

This morning, the Palace published a statement that read: ‘Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.

‘I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday’.
