The Duchess of Sussex will have a day to bond with the Queen when she attends her first royal engagement with Her Majesty next week.

It will also mark Meghan's first official duty without her husband Prince Harry and, while the former actress has accompanied the monarch on other royal events, other senior members of the royal family have always been present.

According to the Court Circular, the Queen and the Duchess will officially open the Mersey Gateway Bridge, at Catalyst Science Discovery Centre, Mersey Road, Widnes, Cheshire on 14 June.

During their engagement, the royals will also attend a lunch at Chester Town Hall, 33 Northgate Street, Chester.

Meghan joined the royal family and was given the title of the Duchess of Sussex when she and Prince Harry married on 19 May at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

It was a year until the Duchess of Cambridge fulfilled her first duty with the Queen and without Prince William. Back in March 2012, Kate and the monarch visited the plush Fortnum & Mason store in central London, accompanied by Prince Charles' wife Camilla.

It's believed that the royal couple are now finally on their honeymoon, although it's not been confirmed as to where they are spending it.

Don't forget to add 14 June to your diaries...
