Karlie Kloss announced yesterday that she's engaged to longtime boyfriend Joshua Kushner, but she also made another serious step in their relationship before he proposed: she converted to Judaism, a source told People.

'She’s never been one to make decisions lightly,' an insider told the site. 'She spends a lot of time reflecting and learning.' Ivanka Trump—who's married to Josh's brother, Jared Kushner—also converted to Judaism before they got engaged in 2009.

Joshua proposed to Karlie 'a few weeks ago' during a trip in upstate New York, the source told People. 'They’re both overjoyed and happily celebrating. Their hearts are full and they’re excited to build their future together,' added the insider.

The couple waited weeks before announcing their engagement. The've kept fairly private about their personal lives through their six-year relationship, but Kloss explained why to Porter magazine earlier this year.

'It’s not like I’ve ever wanted to be so secretive about my private life,' the former Victoria's Secret model-turned-tech entrepreneur said. 'Carolina Herrera always says, "A woman who’s an open book is boring." There’s no mystery anymore. I know in my life what really matters to me. I’m not trying to hide that from the world; I just really like having a more private private life. I’ve got nothing to hide, though!'

But after keeping tight-lipped for weeks, Kloss and Kushner finally gushed over the news on social media yesterday.
