If you thought Lady Gaga was a ground-breaking singer, just wait until you see her in her first ever film, A Star Is Born.

At Monday night's Los Angeles premiere of her new film, Gaga- who wore a metallic silver Givenchy dress for the occasion - revealed she wanted to be an actress long before she set her sights on the world stage as a singing artist.

'I couldn't make it as an actress, I was bad at auditioning,' the singer told E! News. 'I never got a job.'

Describing Cooper - who made his directorial debut with the film - as a 'force of nature', the 32-year-old credited the actor for helping her finally live out her childhood fantasy.

'The most challenging part of this process for me was being as vulnerable as the character needed... but he made me feel so comfortable,' she revealed.

'He challenged me in ways I've never been challenged before and I am so so grateful to him for that.'

While Gaga may have had doubts of her acting abilities (which are totally unfounded after watching this masterpiece of a film, by the way) her co-star revealed her never saw her as anything but a one-of-a-kind on camera.

'It's all instinctual and I knew it when I met her,' the four-time Oscar nominee revealed.

'When I met her I felt like she was so soulful and deep and open and warm and caring and I thought, "God if I just could capture what I am seeing right now talking to her [then] we're going to be okay",' he explained.

Of course, it wasn't only the singer's acting talent that shone through for Cooper.

'She's somebody who works so hard and is dedicated,' he added. 'You know, she is very busy and she gave it all up for this movie.

'Her willingness to put all that work in, I hope she feels paid off because I do.'

A Star Is Born sees Cooper play famous musician Jackson Maine, who falls in love with budding singer Ally (Gaga). However, as Ally's career reaches new heights, Jack must confront his inner demons and fight for the pair's relationship.

A Star Is Born is out in UK cinemas on 3 October.
