'Equality and the movement of people power has always been at the heart of the band. It is about equality for all, "every boy and every girl",' said the Spice Girls in a statement. 'We recently found out that charities focused on issues faced by women don’t get the funding that they desperately need, so launching a campaign to raise funds for these issues is incredibly important to us and an area we want to support.'

Was Victoria Beckham actually asked to join the reunion?

Whilst on the Jonathan Ross show Melanie C claimed that Victoria Beckham suggested she hadn't actually been asked to join the group's reunion tour.

Whilst on the sofa the singer said, 'Do you know what is actually quite funny… I saw Victoria recently and obviously we’ve all been in contact, she is still very much a part of the Spice Girls, she really supports us and we really support her.

'But she did raise the point that she was never actually asked. We just presumed.'

Emma Bunton protested, along with the rest of the group, that Beckham had been asked, telling Ross, 'She just didn’t want to do it… She was busy with her fashion and she has moved on.

'The philosophy of us lot is that we are a band, on and off the stage and we care each other, we support each other and we support her and she has been a huge part of our lives and we care about her so it’s all good.'

How did the world react to the news?

The internet could barely handle the news of the Spice Girls reuniting, even if they were one member short. Most of our anticipation for the mega-reunion, was neatly encapsulated in non other than Adele's Instagram post.

Showing a snap of herself young and babyfaced in front of a wall of Spice Girls posters, the singer captioned the hilarious throwback, 'HA! This is how I feel right now! I AM READY ✌🏻'

Jack Whitehall, clearly also a fan, offered up his services:

And the rest of Twitter gently melted in excitement:

When will tickets go on sale?

Tickets will go on sale on Saturday 10 November via Ticketmaster and GigsAndTours.

In a press release shared by the group, Emma Bunton said of the announcement: 'It’s time to spice things up all over again!!!!! I can’t wait to perform to our forever supporting fans and a whole new spice generation! Love you all!'

Meanwhile Mel B said: 'I’ve said it sooo many times I’m beside myself it’s actually happening yipppeeee. I’m now properly screaming it from every rooftop - me and my girls will see you all on stage!!'

Will Victoria 'Posh Spice' Beckham join the tour?

Unfortunately, Victoria Beckham will not be reuniting with her fellow Spice Girls singers, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner, and Melanie Chisholm for the rumoured project.

Instead, she is reportedly focusing on her eponymously-named fashion company.

Beckham shared her well wishes for her fellow Spice Girls.

'Being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish my girls so much love and fun as they go back on tour, I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time!' she said via the press release.

What are the rumours?

Are you ready to spice up your life? Do you crave some zig-a-zig ah on this dreary Monday morning?

Well, you’re in luck as after months of ‘are they, aren’t they’, the Spice Girls are expected to announce some very exciting news this afternoon. Better yet, it's widely believe the girl group will release a statement about a reunion tour next year.

Yes, that's right. You could be sitting FROW at a Spice Girls concert in a matter of months.

This morning, ‘Baby Spice’ Emma Bunton confirmed reports when she was grilled by her Heart breakfast radio show co-host, Jamie Theakston.

'Everything will be announced just after 3 o'clock today - on social media,' she said.

Theakston continued to question Bunton about claims a video message will be released from the band later today revealing stadium tour dates for 2019.

Remaining tight-lipped on the subject, the Spice Girls band member said: 'After 3 o'clock today you will find out everything. I'm just so excited. I want it out there. It will be brilliant.'

News of a rumoured reunion has delighted fans of the '90s band on Twitter:

Last week, Mel B - otherwise known as 'Scary Spice' - took to Instagram to share a photograph of herself and a male friend dressed up as Victoria and David Beckham at Heidi Klum's halloween party.

In the snap, the singer - who dressed as the fashion designer for the occasion - held an axe with the words 'No, I Am (Not) Going On (Tour)', while her companion help a sign which read 'Please, please, please. Do it for the Spice fan.'

Last night, Horner teased fans that an announcement regarding a potential reunion was imminent.

In a snap of herself in Brighton, she captioned the photograph: 'I’m in Brighton for the day and didn’t expect to see this... this carousel was where we (Spice) had our first ever photo shoot #howfarwehavecome.'

On Friday, Beckham was seen attended The 9th Annual Global Gift Gala held at The Rosewood Hotel with Mel C.

Following the event, the mother-of-four took to Instagram to congratulate her friend and college on her performance.
