After the sad news of Karl's passing, the world is eagerly waiting to find out what will happen to his biggest love. Nope, not fashion, but Choupette a.k.a the Birman cat who famously ate dinner off fine china, owned her own iPad, and had two personal maids - for both night and day.

And it seems that the world's most pampered cat could be first in line to part of the Chanel designer's £150m fortune.

When asked if he would leave his fortune to Choupette in an interview with the French magazine Numéro last year, the German-born designer replied saying: 'Among others, yes. Don’t worry, there is enough for everyone.’

He’d also said of his beloved: ‘She has her own little fortune, she’s an heiress.’

Choupette had reportedly amassed her own personal fortune, earning more than £2 million for two feline modelling jobs in 2014, one for a Japanese cosmetic brands and another by posing for a car manufacturer’s calendar.

On being told that it is forbidden under French law to leave money to an animal, Lagerfeld replied: 'Well, it’s lucky I’m not French then.'

According to French newspaper Le Figaro, such a financial arrangement could be feasible under German law if the cat was nominated the ‘heir’ through an association or foundation.

Lagerfeld, who was unmarried and childless, told CNN in 2013 that he had 'fallen in love' with Choupette, who came into his life in 2012 after being given to him by one of his muses, the French model Baptiste Giabiconi.

While the feline could be in line for a slice of the fashion icon's fortune, Lagerfeld’s male model muse Brad Kroenig and Kroenig's son Hudson, the fashion icon's godson and model, are also tipped to receive a cut.

Although it is not yet known who will look after Choupette, we're sure the volunteer sign-up list has no shortage of names.
