Sienna Miller has expertly reminded the world not to reduce a woman, specifically, to her sexual past.

In an interview with The Sunday Times Style, the British actress declined to discuss her previous relationship with Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows actor Rhys Ifans, asking the interviewer: ‘What is the point of listing someone’s sexual history? It is totally gendered.’

Miller continued, explaining that the ‘responsibility falls on the media to handle women responsibly and to apply the same rules interviewing actresses as they do to actors.

‘And I can guarantee you, having read enough interviews about this, that these questions aren’t mentioned with men.’

The 37-year-old – who stars in the upcoming film American Woman – went on to talk about how she became the focus of media attention in the early days of her career, particularly during her relationship with actor Jude Law.

‘Somebody who has been as scrutinised as I was, of course privacy is going to be something you know how to be protective about, and with a good reason,’ she added.

Miller, who co-parents her seven-year-old daughter Marlowe with ex-partner Tom Sturridge, said that she spends ‘a lot of time’ with the actor.

‘I’m fortunate that I have had a child with an incredible man who I love and respect,’ the American Sniper star said.

‘I mean it’s as important to work on our relationship with our daughter as it is to work on our friendship and respect of each other.’

The actress stated that she is currently ‘settled and happy’ with her boyfriend, Lucas Zwirner, and ‘would love to have more children’ at some point in the future.

‘I think I would be open to getting married, yes,’ she said, when questioned about being open to getting married.

Miller’s comments come months after she spoke about how she believes that she has been treated badly during her near two decade-long career, claiming she has been ‘screamed at, underpaid and undervalued and treated like sh*t’.

In an interview with Porter Edit in June, the Alfie actress also spoke about how she’d only recently been paid a ‘significant amount of money’ for the first time in her acting career.

‘I finally understood how it must have felt to be a man,’ she told Porter Edit of the sizeable paycheck.

American Woman is out in UK cinemas on 11 October.
