It's hard to top this season's TV. From cop thrillers, scandalous sex dramas and a good unhealthy dose of teen angst, there is a good few months of watching divinity ahead of us.

But what is really getting us excited is the host of incredible women dominating the show's leading roles. Fierce, flawed and totally fabulous - the one dimensional female girlfriend bit-parts are finally over.

So, cancel your plans, get comfy on the sofa and enjoy watching the queens of the small screen reign.

Here is the new troop of women ruling TV this autumn:

1.Siobhan Roy, Succession

Siobhan 'Shiv' is our favourite sibling in the Roy dynasty fighting it out with her older brothers - Connor (Alan Ruck), Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) - to succeed her dad Logan (Brian Cox) and take over the illustrious family business - Waystar Royco.

This season, Shiv has been promised the 'kingdom' and naturally she is dressing the part: a new high-gloss Hillary Clinton-esque bob, executive realness polo neck jumpers (watch out Mark Zuckerberg) and high-waisted wide-legged trousers with all the pleats in all the right places. Will it all be enough to prove her place at the top? Probably not, but watching her scrap to get there has never been better.

2.Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown

Plan your viewing party and don your best tiara: The Crown is coming back.

For the third series of our favourite royal drama (out 17th November), in steps a completely fresh cast including Academy Award-winner Olivia Colman - who succeeds actress Claire Foy as Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II - as well as Josh O'Connor (Prince Charles), Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret) and Gillian Anderson (Margaret Thatcher).

If the upcoming season's teaser trailer is anything to go by, we can't wait for Colman's no-nonsense attitude and stern side eye glances as HRH. Here's to more Buckingham Palace drama.

3.Bradley Jackson in The Morning Show

Say 'hello' to Reese Witherspoon as local news anchor Bradley Jackson who shows the lengths women must go to to succeed in the newsroom in Apple TV+ first big launch The Morning Show.

Joined by c0-stars Jennifer Aniston and Steve Carell, the show is loosely based on the book Top of the Morning by CNN correspondent Brian Shelter and pulls back the curtain on early-morning TV in light of a #MeToo scandal.

With a reported budget of $15 million an episode, this show is promised to be major on all levels.

    4.Detective Karen Duvall in Unbelievable

Having been nominated for two Emmy awards for her roles in Nurse Jackie and Godless, actress Merritt Wever has been on our radar for awhile. Now, her role as Detective Karen Duvall opposite Toni Collette in Netflix's blistering series Unbelievable is her best performance to date.

Wever and Collette play detectives working ceaselessly to track down a serial rapist alongside actress Kaitlyn Dever, who plays a young woman whose rape isn't believed. Detective Karen Duvall is dedicated, kind and always on the right side of good. Plus her blue suits are giving us great autumn/winter 2019 workwear inspiration.

    5. Shelley in Top Boy

Not only did North Londoner Little Simz, aka Simbiatu Abisola Abiola, become our album of the year with the scorching Mercury Award-nominated Grey Area, now she's one of our favourite characters in the Drake produced new series of Tomboy.

Staring as Shelley - a driven, independent single mum who works as a nail technician and Dushane's (Ashley Walters) love interest - the 25-year-old singer/actor steals every scene she's in.

6.Detective Inspector Rachel Carey in The Capture

Cool, calm and ambitious DI Carey (played by Holliday Grainger) is our spirit career mentor in this six-part series, which explores the troubling world of CCTV surveillance and fake news while simultaneously seeing the inspector trying to solve the most complicated murder of all time.

'It’s like a Scandi-noir cop show, a cross between The Killing and The Bourne Identity,” says Manchester born Grainger, who stars in the series alongside actor Callum Turner. We are all hooked.

    7.Georgina Hobart in The Politician

Long-time queen of Hollywood and founder of Goop empire Gwyneth Paltrow has now taken reign over our small screens as the Ivanka Trump-esque character whose son, Payton Hobart, is determined to become President of the United States, no matter what.

From gardening in couture fashion to playing tennis on a manicured lawn all with the back drop of a glossy Santa Barbara, we're obsessed with everything Georgina.

    8.Rue Bennett in Euphoria

Zendaya was born to play Rue - a 17-year-old recovering addict in this Skins-inspired stylish school drama.

Fresh from rehab, the teen is struggling to cope until she meets Jules (Hunter Schafer) who is undoubtedly the coolest new girl in town.

Flawed, complicated and filled with more teenage angst than your whole Instagram feed - this show will have you gripped and grateful (to have left your teenage years in the past).
