*Warning: This article contains Emily In Paris season three spoilers*

The long-awaited third season of Emily In Paris finally dropped on Netflix as an early Christmas treat, on December 21 – and as per tradition, we've already binge-watched the whole ten episodes. Patience? We don't know her.

It was all worth it, though, because this season's plot served us some seriously epic fashion (both good and bad), tonnes of drama, endless cringe moments and some unexpected huge twists – chief among them, *that* shocking ending.

Lily Collins did warn viewers they'd be left shocked in an interview earlier this month, revealing that 'in the finale, it all kind of blows up' and that the ending would be 'the ultimate cliffhanger'. But still... We were not prepared.

Before we get stuck into the details, this is your final warning to stop reading now if you're still a few episodes behind.

What happened at the end of Emily In Paris season 3?

It should have been the ultimate climax of Emily and Gabriel's endless 'will they, won't they' dance – until it wasn't. The episode begins with the newly engaged Gabriel working to reopen his restaurant with the hopes of earning a Michelin star, and we are told that later in the week his fiancée Camille will host an engagement party at her family's chateau, to which the whole crew is invited. Emily continues to keep Camille's affair with artist Sofia from Gabriel, holding fast to her decision to not get involved – made even more awkward when she runs into the pair having lunch in the lead-up to the engagement party.

Naturally, all tensions come to a head at said engagement party. Gabriel learns that his restaurant looks highly likely to earn a coveted Michelin star, and in the throes of excitement, impulsively suggests to Camille that they get married right away. Only once in the actual chapel, Camille realises she can't in fact marry him – sounding the death knell for their relationship (and, too, Emily and Alfie's) when she says in front of the congregation: 'Gabriel, the only reason we're together is because I knew you were in love with Emily. You and Emily have been in love with each other since the moment you met.' She then runs off – as, eventually, does Alfie.

But that's not even the most shocking part. Emily and Gabriel meet outside the chapel, finally both aware of how they feel about each other – but before we can finally enjoy the reunion we all deserve, Gabriel reveals some shocking news: that Camille is pregnant. Cue shock, horror, and a whole nother year of impatiently waiting to find out what happens next...

Is Camille really pregnant?

Gabriel reveals to Emily that the reason Camille came home early from Greece wasn't just because she missed him, but because she's expecting a baby – so it makes sense why he was in such a good mood when Emily bumped into him outside their apartment building a few episodes back.

Camille Razat, the actor who plays Camille in Emily In Paris, provided some insight into what her character might be feeling during an interview with ELLE: 'First of all, the marriage,' Razat says. 'I feel there is so much pressure on Camille to get married also because during the party, [it] was not planned to get married so soon and the parents are pushing her, and Gabriel is like, "Oh, let's get married tonight." And she’s like, "Okay!" I think deep down she wants it, and she knows that it’s not going to happen already. But maybe she’s doing it because she’s pregnant and she thinks that’s the way it has to be. In some way, she has to be with Gabriel, that’s the love of her life. She’s [been] with him for such a long time. She has a baby coming. So it’s the logical thing to do.'

It's important to note, however, that she is likely still thinking about Sofia – who Gabriel still knows nothing about. 'I think she still has Sofia in mind,' added Razat. 'I think she really does like Sofia, and I think she doesn’t want to do what people expect her to do. I think she wants to be her own person. On her own path.'

Also speaking with ELLE, the show's creator Darren Star has said he felt the finale was 'the right moment to kind of sort of drop a piece of information that I think justified a lot of what had happened in the prior couple episodes: the rush to get married and all these sort of things, that I think Emily was kind of wondering and questioning and swept under the rug and was sort of... looking at everything from one point of view and suddenly had to flip her point of view on everything.'

What happened between Emily and Gabriel?

Having both been dumped by their respective partners – at the same event! – and their feelings finally revealed, our hopes were high for a long-awaited romantic reunion between Emily and Gabriel.

Season three was filled with romantic tension and exciting moments between the two – namely, Gabriel getting drunk because he thinks Camille is coming back from Greece to break up with him, and telling Emily that he still loves her. Not to mention all the times they're referred to as a couple during their Michelin-starred lunch date in Provence...

But the Camille pregnancy news has put *quite* the spanner in the works, to say the least. The episode ended with both of them looking into the distance – so as ever, viewers were left guessing as to what might happen next.

In an interview with ELLE, Lily Collins revealed that the ambiguous ending was intentional. 'The idea that we end it with us both looking off into the kind of abyss in this kind of settled-within-the-confusion type of feeling was really important, because it couldn’t be too much of anything,' she said. 'It couldn’t be too much sadness, it couldn’t be too much happiness. It had to just be this overwhelming feeling of like, "Wait, what?" And then it cuts to black. And so it allows us to sit with our thoughts as actors as to what happens next season, because you couldn’t decide too much now, because we don’t know how [season] four starts. So it was important to have it be left within this quiet confusion, as opposed to something too outlandish and loud.'

Well, if the actor who plays Emily herself doesn't know what's going to happen, it looks like we'll be waiting a good few months for any further clarity on the situation ourselves.

Bring on Season 4...
