Following a ban in Lebanon over Gal Gadot's Israeli nationality, Wonder Woman is now facing a ban in Tunisia.

According to reports, the Tunisian Culture Minister has tried to ban the film after it was requested by political party the People's Movement.

The request reportedly has its roots in Gadot's defence of Israel during the 2014 Gaza War, and came ahead of the film's planned preview screening in capital Tunis last night, June 7.

There was also a similar request by the Tunisian Association of Young Lawyers, which has halted the theatrical release of the movie – though Deadline reports that this has been rejected.

And that's not all – the DC movie has also been removed from the schedule of an Algerian film festival, due to premiere today.

It's not entirely clear whether Gadot's background is the reason for that one though, as Amine Idjer – head of press at MD Cine, which organises the Nuits du Cinéma festival – said it was due to "administrative issues linked to exhibition rights" (via Variety).

Nevertheless, there is a petition in Algeria to boycott the film titled "Non! Pas en Algeria" ("No! Not in Algeria").

Wonder Woman has already made big earnings at the US box office, taking in more than $100 million in its opening weekend. Its director Patty Jenkins has also scored the highest-grossing movie opening for a female director.

Wonder Woman is in cinemas now.
