The only female Album of the Year Grammy nominee, Lorde, boycotted the show's carpet tonight reportedly in response to the Recording Academy not inviting her to perform solo. (They invited all the male contenders to.) But Lorde is at the show and made a literal statement stitched onto the back of her red Valentino dress:
'My version of a white rose—THE APOCALYPSE WILL BLOSSOM—an excerpt from the greatest of all time, jenny holzer 🕊🌹' Lorde wrote on her Instagram.
The quote reads from Jenny Holzer reads:
'Rejoice! Our times are intolerable. Take courage, for the worst is a harbinger of the best. Only dire circumstances can precipitate the overthrow of oppressors. The old and corrupt must be laid to waste before the just can triumph. Contradiction will be heightened. The reckoning will be hastened by the staging of seed disturbances. The apocalypse will blossom.'
Lorde brought her brother Angelo Yelich-O'Connor along with her and sat beside Jack Antonoff.
She was also photographed having a moment with Miley Cyrus, Jay Z, and Sam Smith:
