Oscars 2023: All The Moments You Missed, From The Most Memorable To The Funniest

Having stormed the Oscars red carpet wearing a stunning black Versace gown worn just days before by Gigi Hadid, Lady Gaga underwent a total transformation for a performance of her song 'Hold My Hand' from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack. Gaga swapped her dramatic dress for a simple black t-shirt and ripped jeans and appeared to be totally barefaced having removed her elaborate red lip and eye liner.

Having swiftly become the most likeable man in Hollywood throughout 2023's award season, Ke Huy Quan continued his run of adorable moments with an emotional acceptance speech for his Best Supporting Actor win. Through a face full of tears Quan thanked his brother for calling him everyday and his wife for supporting him when he was tempted to give up on his dreams.

Industry legend and all round incredible woman Jamie Lee Curtis gave an unsurprisingly endearing and relatable response to winning the Best Supporting Actress award. As Curtis' name was announced by actor Ariana DeBose, the camera panned to the Everything, Everywhere All At Once star's face to show her mouthing 'Shutup!' in shock at the result.

After wowing on the red carpet in a black Alaia ensemble, Rihanna switched up her outfit for a performance of her song from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, 'Lift Me Up'. The singer, who is currently pregnant with her second child, showed off her figure in a sheer beaded babydoll top by Maison Margiela and elbow length leather gloves.

Although John Travolta's previous Oscar speeches may not have been so successful (if you know, you know), the actor delivered an emotional and tearful introduction to this year's 'In Memoriam' section of the awards. Travolta referenced his Grease co-star Olivia Newton-John who sadly passed away last year, saying, 'They've touched our hearts, they've made us smile, and became dear friends who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to.'

There's not much we enjoy more than unexpected celebrity pairings on the Oscars red carpet. This year, we were treated to arguably the least likely A-list duo: Lady Gaga and Brendan Gleeson. The singer and actor were seemingly overjoyed to bump into each other on the champagne-coloured carpet, embracing and laughing at this year's Academy Awards.

Disney actor Sofia Carson delivered a moving performance in honour of the 2022 film Tell It Like A Woman, alongside honorary Academy Award winner, Diane Warren. Carson implored the audience and women everywhere to empower themselves, saying, 'To each and every single woman in this room, and to all the women in the world, give yourself an applause.'

Indulging us in our nostalgia for all things nineties rom coms were Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell who presented an award together. Grant comically quipped that one of the two of them had used a very good moisturiser everyday for 29 years, and the other, himself, had not. The British actor went on to humorously refer to himself as a 'scrotum'. Rom coms could never.

Director and screenplay writer of Women Talking, Sarah Polley, gave a moving acceptance speech reminding the audience of the importance of talking and listening to solve our problems. Polley quoted the film she directed saying, 'The last line of the film is from a mother to a child and she says, "Your story will be different from ours". It's a promise, a commitment and an anchor, and what I would like to say with incredible might to my own kids.'

After arguably stealing the show in the Oscar-nominated film The Banshees Of Inishirin, donkey Jenny was reunited with her co-star, and Best Actor nominee, Colin Farrell. Jenny seemed indifferent to her sudden moment in the spotlight and appeared unmoved by the emotional reunion.
