Whether you’re looking for an injection of summer outfit ideas or a beach read to lose yourself in on your next getaway, And Just Like That… is proving to be a treasure trove of inspiration.

The Sex And The City sequel has become as renowned for its cast’s covetable closets as it has for the contents of their bookshelves, most of which were hand-selected by Sarah Jessica Parker herself.

In a collaborative effort with the show’s props team, Parker provided them with a list of literary suggestions for the characters on the show to read, which they fleshed out to include 120 books for Carrie Bradshaw alone. In keeping with the sequels’ inclusive nature, the stories that Bradshaw et al have been filmed reading or carrying are largely stories from writers of traditionally marginalised backgrounds.

So in case you’re in the market for a new read or are just curious to know what lines some of our favourite fictional Manhattanites’ bookshelves, these are all of the tomes we’ve spotted so far on And Just Like That...

The book nestled by Carrie’s side at a picnic when Charlotte utters the now infamous line — ‘A finger made you feel alive?’ — was Paul Mendez’ debut novel, Rainbow Milk. The story, which explores topics of racial and sexual identity, follows the 19-year-old protagonist, a Black gay man, who flees his home after being outed by members of his community.

It was one of the books personally selected by Parker and it tells the story of two boys sentenced to a hellish reform school in 1960s Florida.

While she wasn’t pictured with a copy of Beautiful World, Where Are You, Bradshaw was filmed toting — pun intended — the bag released in conjunction with the Normal People author’s latest novel, which is as good as confirmation that she's read it too. The book, in true Rooney style, dissects the lives and loves of a quartet of young friends in Dublin and along the west of Ireland.
