In this day and age, it's rare for news of a remake not to receive an eye roll. After all, aren't remakes just another lazy excuse for Hollywood to butcher a classic film from our youth?
Well, that was until today of course.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Channing Tatum will star as a mermaid in the Disney remake of the iconic 80s film, Splash.
Yes, a mermaid. Or as Derek Zoolander would call it 'a merman'.
The Step Up actor is reportedly taking on the mermaid role made famous by Daryl Hannah in the 1984 original while his 22 Jump Street co-star Jillian Belle has been cast to play the role made famous by Tom Hanks.
If you haven't seen the original, Hanks played a boy who was saved from drowning by a mermaid (Hannah) and 20 years later the mermaid returns and gives him the option of continuing his life on land or living under the sea with her. Think along the lines of The Little Mermaid and you'll get the drift.
Inspired by the remake's ingenious gender role-swapping (it is 2016, after all) we've come up with a list of male actors we'd love to see play our favourite females from film.
Ben Stiller as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada
Famed for his role as Derek Zoolander, Stiller already has shown prowess in the fashion industry with his stern Blue Steel pout.
He has the fashion know-how and status, the ability to dominate a fashion show, a bevvy of celebrity friends and is sure to know how to spell Gabbana (well, Stiller yes. Derek, maybe not).

Liam and Chris Hemsworth as Kat and Daisy Arujo in Mystic Pizza
No one knows sibling love (and competition) like the Hemsworth brothers.
Much like Kat and Daisy in Mystic Pizza, the duo have survived childhood rivalry, work in the same industry (okay, so Hollywood isn't exactly a pizzeria) and have suffered heartbreak and reconciliation with their loves (hello Miley).
Tom Hiddleston as Jennifer Beals in Flashdance
It's a well-known fact Hiddleston loves to boogie. In fact, the dance floor is where he found love with Taylor Swift when they danced to Beyonce's Crazy In Love at the 2016 Met Gala.
So it makes sense for the 35-year-old British actor to play Beals, right? After all, he looks great soaked by a bucket of water.

The Hangover cast as the Mean Girls
The Hangover foursome have already showed they like to party and will do anything for each other (remember the face tattoo?).
Besides, their Hangover roles are pretty much a mirror image of the Mean Girls:
Bradley Cooper (Stu) as Regina George – Queen Bee, blonde hair and oozes sex appeal
Zach Galifanakis (Alan) as Karen Smith – Stupid, hilarious and childlike
Ed Helms (Phil) as Gretchen Wieners – Slightly more sensible than the rest, obsessed with group leader and most likely to be the scapegoat
Justin Bartha (Doug) as Cady Heron – The only sane one but easily persuaded.
Ryan Gosling as Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones's Diary
He's a feminist, is always telling us to eat carbs (if those memes are anything to go by) and has already shown his comedic talents in films like The Big Short and Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Someone give the man some fleece pajamas, a bottle of red wine, leopard-print granny pants and wait for the magic to happen.
If the Splash remake is anything to go by, we are officially converted.
