Which is heavier – a baby or 28 Olympic medals?

It might not be the most common question you ask a new parent but it's one U.S.A swimmer Michael Phelps knows the answer to.

Over the weekend, the 28 Olympic medalist spoke of his newborn son Boomer, telling E!: 'The medals might weigh more all together. Boomer's probably 16 or 17 pounds.'

Since arriving in Rio earlier this month, the swimmer's 3-month old son Boomer has been stealing the spotlight from his Olympic father, with viewers gushing at his adorable patriotic get-up.

Yesterday, Phelps announced he was to officially retire from swimming after Rio 2016, meaning he'll have a lot more time to spend at home with his newborn and fiancé Nicole Johnson.

Over the weekend, the swimmer said: 'I want to be there every step of the way.

'I don't want to miss a thing. I've had so many people say to me, 'You blink an eye, it's over.' They grow up so fast. Next thing you know, they're going off to college. I don't want to miss anything,' he added.

But if Phelps thinks he'll have another swimmer in the family, he might have to think again.

We predict Boomer has his eyes set on the basketball court, if this slam dunk move is anything to go by.

Cuteness radar – off the scale.
