The Oscar winner was invited to the city to speak at the Scottish Business Awards, but before the event, he called in for lunch at Home, a café in Queensferry Street which gives its profits to the Social Bite homeless charity, the BBC reports.

It wasn't exactly a low-key arrival and many fans couldn't believe their luck.

Word of DiCaprio's appearance soon spread on social media and despite the cold, rainy weather, crowds of people patiently waited for their chance to meet the star.

One seriously lucky fan didn't need to bother with queueing up for an autograph, though. Elise Lovell, who won a competition to have lunch with DiCaprio, was the envy of pretty much everyone around her.

"It was quite surreal but a fantastic couple of hours," Lovell told The Guardian. She said they spoke about his films, environmental work and Donald Trump's US election win. He "kind of laughed and said it was definitely a shock to a lot of people," she added.

Well played, Leo. You just made Edinburgh's day.
