Social media on International Women's Day is a divisive experience.
On one side of the coin, you have inspiring messages and heart-warming shoutouts from people who understand that it's a day to celebrate, to draw attention to the great efforts we've all been going to, to bring about a social and political equality between the genders that isn't quite in place yet.
Our Actor of the Year, Riz Ahmed posted the above (absolutely stunning) picture of his mother with his message of positivity to all the 'unsung heroines'.
We even got all gooey over here at ELLE Digital HQ.
But, on the other side of the coin, there was a cacophony of men (and some women, to be fair), clamouring (one can only assume from their parents' basements) about their hatred of all things female, their incredulity that a day for women should exist...over their (probably already sticky) keyboards.
And, to be honest, we kind of love it.
This kind of vitriol just means that you're getting to someone, which means something is happening.

This guy made our day by trawling Twitter to respond to every time a man asked when International Men's Day was...it's November 19th.
His name is Richard Herring and he wrote about his mission for the Guardian back in 2015, and he chooses a charity each year for people to donate to if they are enjoying his marathon attempts to respond to each man's whining.
I love the fact that the kind of cheese-helmets who feel the need to question the concept of International Women's Day don't even know there is already a day for men (an official one, rather than the regular days where they get more pay and power and privilege). I love it when people try to manufacture an injustice out of a position of clear superiority.
He is actually a King amongst men, and we tip our caps to you, Richard.
We urge you to read his article, but you might fall in love with him.
It's all so transparently self-centred. It's the impulse that drives your kids on Mother's Day or Father's Day to whine: "When will there be a Children's Day?" Though at least the children have the excuse of being children and thus naturally self-obsessed and unable to spot that the world pretty much revolves around them already. But delightfully (and to keep this analogy spot on), there actually is an International Children's Day. It's on 1 June.
