Moonlight was adapted from a play, The Circle from a book, and Queen of Katwe from a real-life story.

And now, is the first film to be based on a Tweet being announced?

Yes, that's right, the world has reached peak meme.

So far, nothing has been able to sneak past our collective consciousness before being commented on, made into a gif or transformed into a full-on meme.

Remember when Bill Clinton really liked those balloons?

Or when Meryl Streep shouted in agreement?

Well, this photo of Grammy-winning singer and actress Rihanna and Oscar-winning Lupita Nyong'o sitting front row at Miu Miu at Fashion Week in 2014, touched the hearts of many.

It started with this post on Tumblr, which read:

'They look like they're in a heist movie with Rihanna as the tough-as-nails leader/master thief and Lupita as the genius computer hacker.'

Then became this viral Tweet, which read:

'Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and Lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scans.'

It got retweeted 98,577 and has 211,086 likes so far.

As with all meme-like content, we imagined it would stay hovering in the ether, ready to be brought up in not-so-distant future for a giggle, and that would be that.

But, thankfully, Twitter (specifically 'black twitter') ran with the idea, coming up with their own ideas of the film, and asking Ava DuVernay (director of Selma, 13th and more) and Issa Rae (of Insecure) to get involved.

Somehow, the gods answered everyone's cries, and Lupita, then Rihanna, then Issa, and, finally, Ava, all accept their mission live on Twitter only a month ago.

Somehow this internet wizardry has worked and Entertainment Weekly, as well as DuVernay herself, have confirmed the movie has the green light.

Netflix apparently landed the project after a 'very aggressive bid' to get the movie into production with DuVernay directing an Rae writing.

Not only this, but reps for Rae have said that the 'Twitter users who imagined the concept for this film will be credited and included in some form.'

Apparently Rae is already bearing away at that script which is set to start filming in 2018, once DuVernay is done with her current work on Wrinkle In Time.

Not only does the concept of a buddy movie with Rihanna and Lupita bring us boundless joy, but also that the power of Twitter has realised it's full potential in bringing these four amazing women together.
