This morning Taylor Swift did what Taylor Swift does best: Hide a ton of easter eggs in her new music video 'The Man', which she directed.
Swift confirmed to fans ahead of the release that there's a lot to unpack in the video. 'How many Easter eggs? Lots and lots,' she wrote. 'More than in any kid’s yard on easter morning.'
Swift also confirmed there were plenty of celeb cameos in there too, although they're more subtle. 'There may be some familiar faces but not in the way you think, she wrote. 'I love our cameo actresses & actors. I'm happy they wanted to be a part of it. One of the cameos is gonna make you guys laugh.' (That particular cameo happened to be her dad.)
Swift included everything, from references to her documentary Miss Americana to an overt nod to Scooter Braun. Here, all the easter eggs revealed.

The 13th Street Station, Graffiti Album Names, and No Scooter Sign
YouTube
Swift's favorite number is 13, but there's a lot of other symbolism to unpack in this shot of the 13th street station. Swift included the names of her first six albums (Red, 1989, and Speak Now the most clearly, although Taylor Swift is visible too) along with a no scooter sign. That no scooter sign is likely a nod to producer Scooter Braun, who acquired the masters to those first six albums with his acquisition of Big Machine Label this summer.
Swift wrote an open letter when the news came out, describing Braun owning the masters as her "worst case scenario" because of "the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years."

The Bo$$ Scotch Advertisement and "Greedy" Graffiti
YouTube
Ahead of the release of "The Man," Swift teased that the man was played by a "bo$$" to fans. But the subway ad here is also her own parody of the hyper-masculine advertisement scotch, whiskey, etc. gets.
Fans noticed the "greedy" graffiti next to the sign and believe it may be a reference to Scott (scotch?) Borchetta, Big Machine Label's co-founder who signed Swift when she was young. Rather than selling her masters to her or arranging a deal where she could ultimately own them, he sold them with the label to Braun for $300 million.

Man Vs. Waste Movie Poster
YouTube
With its "Mother nature doesn't stand a chance" tagline, this is as much a comment on some government leaders' response to climate change (prioritizing business profit over taking care of the planet) as it is a parody of the hyper-masculine advertising some action movies receive.

The "Miss Americana" Hoodie
YouTube
A girl on the subway wears a yellow hoodie with the name of one of Swift's other Lover tracks, "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince." Perhaps it's just an easter egg paying homage to the album or maybe it's a hint that could be the next single.

Manspreading on the Subway
YouTube
The New York City MTA literally has posters up asking men not to "manspread"—the practice of sitting with their legs wide open, encroaching on other people's space. (Other public transit systems around the world have done similar campaigns.) Smoking on subway vehicles is also prohibited. Swift's man flouts the rules, while sitting below a subway ad that says, "Because you deserve what you want."

“What Man Won the Year in Celebrity Dating?” Newspaper Headline
YouTube
Here, the lead character reads from a newspaper featuring the headline “What Man Won the Year in Celebrity Dating?” This is most likely a comment on how the media dragged Swift (and other female celebrities) for her dating life, while praising other men for similar habits.

The "Mr. Americana" Poster
YouTube
Swift did a parody of a poster for her Netflix documentary Miss Americana, making every name masculine. Mr. Americana starring Tyler Swift and directed by Larry Wilson premiered at the Mandance festival. In reality, the documentary was directed by Lana Wilson and premiered at Sundance.

The "You Need to Be More Likable" Conversation
YouTube
Swift satirized the feedback many women are given—in entertainment especially—in her conversation with her man actor. “Could you try to be sexier? Even more likable this time?" she said before praising TikTok star Loren Gray. "By the way, excellent work over there Loren, that was astonishing.”

The Man Highfiving 19 Hands in a House That Looks Like Kimye's
YouTube
Ahead of the release of "The Man," fans noticed that the hallway in the music video looks a lot like the one in Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's house. Fans saw it as perhaps a nod to West's big viral "Imma let you finish but" moment at the MTV 2009 VMAs.
Some fans on Twitter are also speculating that Swift is making a reference to the fact that, for many women, a one-night stand is followed by a "walk of shame," whereas men are "put in the hall of fame."
Men Being Applauded for Doing the Bare Minimum With Children
YouTube
In the video, Swift's man picks up a child after being on his phone and is heralded as the "world's greatest dad." It's her comment on how societal expectations of mothers versus fathers as caretakers remain vastly imbalanced.

The Man on the $100 Bill
YouTube
Traditionally men have prominently appeared on U.S. money, although in 2015, then-treasury secretary Jack Lew said starting that in 2020 a woman would appear on the $10 bill. Then Hamilton become popular, and the idea of putting Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill was introduced instead. The Trump administration in 2017 would not comment on whether it still intended to include Tubman.
Perhaps Swift's man character appearing on this bill is a statement on how much more men are recognized in American history.

The Serena Williams Reference
YouTube
In the video, the main character plays tennis at a "women's charity event" (a nod to how men get praised for publicly supporting women, even in the smallest ways). The man gets angry and yells at the umpire but does not get in trouble. Fans figured out that this was a reference to Serena Williams being punished for her reaction to an umpire at the 2018 U.S. Open final, even though men had done similar things in the past without being penalized.
Swift's father appeared in "The Man" as a tennis umpire.

The "Wolf of Wall Street" Scene
YouTube
Swift channeled Leonardo DiCaprio's Wolf of Wall Street alpha male character here, with fans noting the similarities between the stills from the video and movie.
