What is Mulberry silk?
Simply put, Mulberry silk is up there with the best silk you can get. All silks are made from cocoons spun by silkworms. Mulberry silk in particular is made exclusively from silk spun by the silkworms of the Bombyx mori moths, which are fed on Mulberry leaves.
This gives the fabric a pure white colouring and creates much longer individual fibres than other kinds, making it a more refined product overall. Other silks, while still lovely, naturally may be made from shorter strands or less uniform in colour or texture.
What momme silk is best?
Well, it's not a case of 'best', and more a case of what your needs are. Unlike cotton, which is measured in thread count, silk products are measured by the weight of the material. The higher the momme, the heavier the silk – and usually, the higher the price. Most of the silk pillowcases we've found here are between 16 and 30 momme.
How do you wash silk pillowcases?
It's best not to stick your lovely silk pillowcase in your regular hot wash. Instead, put them inside a regular pillowcase (or a mesh delicates laundry bag) and wash on a cold or delicate cycle; no hotter than 30C. Hand washing is another good option. Of course, it's always a good idea to check the brand's recommendations on the particular silk pillowcase you've purchased.
