Six Things Not To Miss In London This Weekend Jan 20 - 22
Done with staying in? We have a better idea: GOING OUT
DRINK: Disrepute, Soho
So the end of the world as we know it is scheduled for this Friday when – unless there is some kind of freak fatal spray-tanning accident – the US inauguration takes place. There is only one response to an event of this magnitude: drink. And a lot of it. Surely there is no chicer – nor, for that matter, more aptly named – place to do it than Soho's latest member's club, Disrepute. Harking back to the hedonistic, artistic 1960s, at this basement bar you can expect wood-panelled walls and vaulted ceilings, expertly curated spirits and creative cocktails (Scandal and Espionage: Belvedere Vodka, Somerset cider brandy, Cocchi Americano, Honeytrap honey syrup; English Rose: vodka, lemon, soda, Matteus rose reduction with rose petal garnish), plus stylish, dimly-lit corners perfect for escaping the world.

FOOD: Pamela at Club Mexicana
If you're attempting Veganuary and life is feeling a little too centred around chickpeas and chia seeds, we bring you glad tidings. Because this week Mexican-vegan food supremos Club Mexicana assume residency at Dalston bar Pamela, bringing with them tacos that won't just make your tastebuds dance – they'll make them samba. Think Baja 'To-fish' with pickled red cabbage, salsa verde and chipotle chilli oil; pineapple and chilli marinated 'pork'; or 'chorizo' and potato with pico de gallo. Which can all be neatly summarised with one word: NOM.
Club Mexicana at Pamela, 428 Kingsland Road, London, E8 4AA
POP-UP: Tokyo Disco at the Queen of Hoxton
So you've always fancied nipping out for a night on the town in Tokyo, but that tiresome matter of it being in a different sub-continent has always gotten in the way. Well, we're about to solve your quandary – or, more accurately, the Queen of Hoxton is. This Saturday sees the start of new series of immersive club nights at the Shoreditch mainstay, and the first theme? That's right: Tokyo Disco. Transforming two floors into a neon-soaked oriental party, you can expect custom-built signs, lighting and installations, plus house, techno, disco, funk and soul and rare groove. Say konichiwa to your new favourite club night.
21 Jan; £10
Queen of Hoxton, 1-5 Curtain Road, London, Greater London, EC2A 3JX
FITNESS: FG2 at Fierce Grace
What's that? You're still sticking to your January health kick? Then let us a) praise you on your will of iron (no really, it's impressive); and b) direct you to this new treat of a yoga class. Brought to you by the UK's original hot yogi Michele Pernetta (she who introduced Bikram yoga to the UK), it's an extension of her super-successful Fierce Grace style, introducing more challenging balances, deeper stretches, and funnier wobbling about as you try new, playful poses. Taught in a friendly (and damned hot) atmosphere and suitable for all levels, it'll bring those washboard abs closer, one standing-bow pose at a time.
Fierce Grace, various London locations; drop-in prices start from £10
NIGHTLIFE: Horse Meat Disco presents The Deep Throat Choir
Nights out this weekend can be divided into two types: the ones that are run by obscenely funky DJ outfit Horse Meat Disco, and the ones that aren't. The ones that ARE run by HMD – specifically, Friday and Saturday night at The Jazz Café in Camden – involve a team-up with Hackney's ace all-female Deep Throat Choir, who'll belt out disco classics (think Donna Summer and Candi Staton) live while you get down to some serious shaking, shimmying and shape-throwing. And the nights that aren't run by HMD? Well, they're probably not worth bothering with.
21-22 Jan; £15
Jazz Cafe, 5 Parkway, Camden Town, NW1 7PG
FOOD: Bobby Fitzpatrick
Meet Bobby Fitzpatrick. He's inviting us to a house party… In the 1970s. There'll be an array of Caribbean rum, suitably retro cocktails and gourmet pizza; authentic '70s wallpaper, lighting and furniture (shag-pile rugs and Formica are involved); plus pop memorabilia and board games aplenty. Please RSVP to quirky new bar Bobby Fitzpatrick, West Hampstead. We'll see you there.
