Known as the queen of the Adriatic Sea, Venice has long been considered one of Europe's most romantic cities. But now, thanks to the arrival of department store T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS, the destination is capturing the hearts of the style-savvy, too. The luxury retailer is home to the very best that the fashion world has to offer, including some of our most-loved Italian designers.

To help inspire your Venetian shopping spree, we’re exploring some of A/W 2019’s most coveted trends.

ALL THAT GLITTERS

Mirror sunglasses, Fendi; “Gancini” minibag in sky-blue, Salvatore Ferragamo; glitter sneakers, Alexander McQueen; rhinestone sandals, René Caovilla; glitter pointy flats, Jimmy Choo; multi-strap silver sandals, Giuseppe Zanotti; rose gold Nudo rings with topaz and agate stones, Pomellato.

Whether it's head-to-toe shine or something more subtle, glitter is no longer reserved for evening wear. If you want a more subdued take on the trend, accessories are a great way to inject a little sparkly glamour into your wardrobe.

Incorporate shimmer with a pair of ultra-shiny sneakers by Alexander McQueen, delicate silver pointed flats from Jimmy Choo or bejewelled open-toe sandals from René Caovilla. Add a touch of light with mirrored aviator-style glasses by Fendi. Or, go for something more classic by layering elegant and colourful rings.

LOGO MANIA

Sicily handbag in iguana-print with DG crystal logo patch, Dolce & Gabbana; iconic Gancini

minibag, Salvatore Ferragamo.

When it comes to handbags, brands are adding their logos to hardware for a modern twist on iconic pieces: Dolce & Gabbana’s Sicily bag is finished with a logo emblazoned with colourful stones, while the hardware of Ferragamo’s vintage-style baguette bag has been updated with the Gancini shape in a gold finish. Pair with mum jeans and a basic tee for an effortlessly chic finish.

PRIMA BALLERINA

Slippers in Taormina lace and Crystals, Dolce & Gabbana; Deneuve satin ballerinas in polka dot, Aquazzura; lacquered pink ballet flats, Salvatore Ferragamo.

Luckily for us, fashion is not ready to give up comfort just yet. The iconic ballerina flat, beloved by Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn and Twiggy alike remains a cornerstone of our wardrobes.

Classic styles in vibrant pink tones are finished with grosgrain bows at Ferragamo, while Aquazzura’s black and white polka dot ballerinas are reminiscent of 1950s pin-ups. Over at Dolce & Gabbana, we’ve been introduced to the ballet flat 2.0, which incorporates loafer-esque details for a design that is as wearable as it is fashion-forward.

BIJOUX BAGS

Black leather bag with golden bondage details, Versace; milk white trunk bag in saffiano leather, Marni; ‘The Jeweled Satchel’ in white leather with Swarovski crystals knuckle, Alexander McQueen; Sabbia bracelets in rose gold with diamonds, Pomellato; Sabbia rings in rose gold with diamonds, Pomellato.

This winter, bijoux details make up the finishing touches to the season's most covetable handbags. Versace’s black and gold tote bag, with its iconic bondage stud detail, adds some edge to everyday looks, whilst fans of minimalism might favour the golden touches on Marni’s cross-body bags. For an ultra-luxe feel, look to Alexander McQueen: satchel styles are elevated with Swarovski crystals.
