Ho Ho Ho, the party season is about to kick in and with it, that age old dilemma over what to wear to all the rounds of mince pie parties, office dos and later, the main event, New Year's Eve.
Each year, it's the same conundrum: what's more interesting than trousers and a nice top but doesn't make you look overcooked, like a Christmas turkey? What are the outfits that you love?
Over the last few years there has been a trend towards dressing down (thanks normcore) that spilt over into 'going out' dressing.
Championed by Céline, heel sizes became practical and it felt perfectly natural to show up to events in jeans and a tee. And as street style stars began to receive a backlash against their extroverted dressing, the dressed down approach gained traction.
But then Hedi Slimane kept churning out his vision for '70s glam rock party girls at Saint Laurent, Gucci's new maximalism caught on and metallics were all over the runways. Big party looks are back.
These final days of 2016 are for going large, piling on sequins, lurex, high-shine minis and wearing deep 'V' jackets with nothing underneath. Whatever else happens at the Christmas shindig, this you won't regret.
