Things To Do In London This Weekend: March 8 - 10
This weekend just. Got. REAL
EVENT: Women of the World Festival
If there’s anything that recent years (the pay-gap scandal, #MeToo, revelations involving the Topshop Mogul Who Shall Not Be – oh actually Shall Be – Named) has shown us, it’s that pushing for gender equality and, y’know, the basic human right for women not to be objectified and intimidated, is more important than ever. So the return of the Southbank Centre’s ace Women of the World festival couldn’t come at a better time. And this year’s line-up of talks, comedy, debate and performance came to slay, with the likes of Naomi Klein, Annie Lennox, Lily Allen, Maisie Williams, Jo Brand and bestselling author Slumflower (to name a few). Go, get inspired, make change.
8-9 Mar; £18-£38
Women of the World Festival, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Rd, SE1 8XX
NIGHTLIFE: Printworks
If you’re yet to break the seal on your 2019 partying, we suggest you do so right away. Because coming to the Printworks’ iconic Press Hall on Saturday is house-music legend Kerri Chandler. And we do mean legend. No one unites a dance floor, inspires more emotion, or kicks damn-well harder than this guy, and soul-flecked good times are guaranteed. Joining him for a huge ol’ daytime rave-up are Motor City Drum Ensemble, Skream and Dyed Soundorum. And now you. Right?
9 Mar, 12midday-11pm; £37.50
Printworks, Surrey Quays Rd, SE16 7PJ
POP-UP: #BalanceForBetter at Seven Dials
Continuing the International Women’s Day celebrations is the Seven Dials, who – not content with a mere day – are hosting a whole week of fabulous feminist events. There’s a live podcast by activist and author Scarlett Curtis on Sunday; talks and workshops with the women behind vegan hit Redemption Bar, jewellery designer Dinny Hall and top chef Chantelle Nicholson; a feminist film club at Covent Garden Hotel; AND free yoga sessions at Another Space. Oh, plus you can shop Tatty Devine’s new collab with the Fawcett Society. Consider it the more stylish way to get strident.

FOOD: House of Holi
Ready to paint the town red? And blue? And yellow? And… You get the idea. This week sees the return of Cinnamon Kitchen’s pop-up party pod in celebration of the Indian festival of Holi. You know, the one where you pelt your friends with pigment until it looks like you’ve not so much tasted the rainbow, but exploded it then rolled around in the remains. Bookable in half-hour slots, you’re provided with white overalls and colour powder, plus cocktails and traditional Indian canapés post-paint fight. There’s even a special five-course menu should you really have worked up an appetite. Holi smokes!
Until 21 March; from £22

The sit-down brunch will journey through Samantha’s three-decade career, how she started her own label, the influences behind her designs, and what 2019 holds for her and the brand. Cefinn will also be hosting a pop-up store throughout the day in the Drawing Room, where guests will get an exclusive 20% discount .

This has been sold to us thus: ‘a unique retail experience where you can expect an array of eclectic, modern luxury pieces.’ Which understandably piqued our interest. When we found out that it’s the handiwork of online vintage store The Wardrobe Workshop – popping up in physical form on the King’s Road – and that items on sale include pre-loved pieces by the likes of Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Gucci?
