Most hairdressers would have a panic attack if their famous client announced to their millions of Twitter followers that they were going to shave their hair off for charity. Not Lyndell though, the hairstylist has bright pink curly hair herself so she really isn’t afraid to experiment. Precisely the reason we have seen Jessie in so many different guises. ‘She’s got her own vision and she has ideas,’ said Lyndell, ‘but I can bring them into play and make them slick. It’s really fun.’

In fact, shaving off Jessie’s hair has been part of their master plan all along. ‘We’ve talked about it for ages’ she told ELLE backstage at the Antipodium spring summer 2013 show where she was heading up the hair team.

So can we expect to see more experimental hairstyles from the duo? ‘You know, we’ve gone lighter with the colour and before we get to shaving we’ll probably do kinda girly hair for a while,’ muses Lyndell. ‘Like she’s really into having it long because she knows she’s going to shave it off. We’re into very feminine, very pretty, very – I guess – soft hair. She’s feeling a bit sexy right now.’

But Jessie is such a hair chameleon, why would she want to shave it all off? ‘She’s such a role model to so many girls and what’s really nice is that she shows them that you don’t have to have a stereotypical look to be beautiful.

‘She’s done the tough thing, she’s done the slick thing, she’s done the coloured wigs thing, she’s done the dip-dye thing, she’s done the fringe thing, she’s done no fringe, she’s done curly, she’s done straight. There’s nothing left, really, except for having short hair or a shaved head’ she laughs, ‘or dreadlocks, which I definitely won’t be giving her!’

So once the money has been raised and the hair is gone, what will Jessie do next? ‘I’ve mentioned to her we can do some fun wigs to start with and play with colour in her shaved hair for a bit. But to be honest I can’t wait to do some amazing short haircuts.'

And while it will be fun for Jessie and Lyndell to experiment with a whole new world of short hairstyles, Lyndell is really inspired by Jessie’s reason for shaving it all off. ‘It’s a beautiful thing that she is doing it for charity, you know not many people do it out of choice, I was 19 when I shaved my hair and it was one of the most liberating things I’ve done, people constantly touched my head,' she laughs, 'some people treated me like I was ill but most of the time, people were like ‘I wish I was that brave, that must feel amazing’ and it really did. Then I just had amazing short haircuts, I wore a wig sometimes, I wore hats, I wore little clips and hair pieces.’

Through her 5.7 million Twitter followers Jessie hopes to ‘raise as much money as possible for charity,’ she said.

Lyndell adds, ‘You know if you’ve been given that sort of power through your skill and you’ve got to a certain level where you can reach people then I think it’s a good thing to use it for positive reasons. I’m proud of her.’
