Most hairdressers would have a panic attack if their famous client announced to their millions of Twitter followers that they were going to shave their hair off for charity. Not Lyndell though, the hairstylist has bright pink curly hair herself so she really isnt afraid to experiment. Precisely the reason we have seen Jessie in so many different guises. Shes got her own vision and she has ideas, said Lyndell, but I can bring them into play and make them slick. Its really fun.
In fact, shaving off Jessies hair has been part of their master plan all along. Weve talked about it for ages she told ELLE backstage at the Antipodium spring summer 2013 show where she was heading up the hair team.
So can we expect to see more experimental hairstyles from the duo? You know, weve gone lighter with the colour and before we get to shaving well probably do kinda girly hair for a while, muses Lyndell. Like shes really into having it long because she knows shes going to shave it off. Were into very feminine, very pretty, very I guess soft hair. Shes feeling a bit sexy right now.
But Jessie is such a hair chameleon, why would she want to shave it all off? Shes such a role model to so many girls and whats really nice is that she shows them that you dont have to have a stereotypical look to be beautiful.
Shes done the tough thing, shes done the slick thing, shes done the coloured wigs thing, shes done the dip-dye thing, shes done the fringe thing, shes done no fringe, shes done curly, shes done straight. Theres nothing left, really, except for having short hair or a shaved head she laughs, or dreadlocks, which I definitely wont be giving her!
So once the money has been raised and the hair is gone, what will Jessie do next? Ive mentioned to her we can do some fun wigs to start with and play with colour in her shaved hair for a bit. But to be honest I cant wait to do some amazing short haircuts.'
And while it will be fun for Jessie and Lyndell to experiment with a whole new world of short hairstyles, Lyndell is really inspired by Jessies reason for shaving it all off. Its a beautiful thing that she is doing it for charity, you know not many people do it out of choice, I was 19 when I shaved my hair and it was one of the most liberating things Ive done, people constantly touched my head,' she laughs, 'some people treated me like I was ill but most of the time, people were like I wish I was that brave, that must feel amazing and it really did. Then I just had amazing short haircuts, I wore a wig sometimes, I wore hats, I wore little clips and hair pieces.
Through her 5.7 million Twitter followers Jessie hopes to raise as much money as possible for charity, she said.
Lyndell adds, You know if youve been given that sort of power through your skill and youve got to a certain level where you can reach people then I think its a good thing to use it for positive reasons. Im proud of her.
And so are we.
