The Louis Vuitton show has ended on a high – literally, with the models amassed for the finale on a set of four working escalators in the Paris venue Le Louvre – the exterior of which was plastered with a blown-up black and white checkerboard. Last season the brand hired a steam train for the catwalk show - for Spring Summer, designer Marc Jacobs seems to have decided on a grand railway station.
The models dazzled the assembled company in Damier checkerboard outfits, in black and white, primrose yellow, baby pink and others in dove grey and pale blue. Like designer Marc Jacobs’ namesake show in New York, the Sixties-inspired beauty look consisted of backcombed beehives; this time secured with an Alice band with a bow.
The theme of the collection was reminiscent of Sixties designers such as Pierre Cardin and Paco Rabanne. And, in the direction Jacobs often turns for Spring Summer collections, pleasingly playful and pretty.
