Seven months after welcoming twins, Ella and Alexander, George Clooney has opened up about finding love and the realities of fatherhood, after initially describing the early days of being a new parent as 'terrifying'.

In an interview with David Letterman for his show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, the pair discussed the impact of having children in life.

Letterman explained 'the purpose of your life is now not you', to the new father.

'I have to say that before I had the twins, I felt that way about her,' replied Clooney, referring to his wife of three years, British lawyer Amal Clooney.

'I felt that I had met someone who I would absolutely trade my life for. I'd met someone that her life meant more to me than my life. I'd never had that experience before,' the Ocean's Eleven star added.

Since welcoming the twins, George revealed he's continued to be in awe of his wife.

'She is this remarkable human being and now mother, which is something I suppose you should assume she would be wonderful at as well,' he says. 'When you see it in person, it makes you feel incredibly proud.'

He added that while he hopes his twins will be protective of one another as they grow up, these days he's more concerned with getting them to sleep in sync. 'One wakes the other one,' he joked.

The actor's adorable comments about his twin, born in June 2017, comes months after he revealed his children were already showing different character traits at home.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Suburbicon star explained - with the help of his co-star and BFF Matt Damon: 'They start out with a personality right off the bat. [Alexander] is a thug already. You saw him. He's a moose! Literally, he just sits and he eats.'

Meanwhile, Ella was described as being just like her mother. 'She's very elegant, and all eyes. She looks like Amal, thank God,' he gushed.

Earlier this month, a sneak-peek of Letterman's interview with the former ER star shed light on how Clooney pursued his wife.

The star revealed the pair were introduced to each other via a mutual friend at his home in Lake Como before starting up an email relationship with the now mother-of-two.

'So we started writing. I didn't know if she wanted to go out with me - I just thought we were buddies.'

The actor admitted he initially began emailing the human rights lawyer from the perspective from his dog.

They met for a second time at Abbey Road while Clooney was recording a soundtrack for a film.

And, as they say, the rest is history.
