Watergate Bay
With its own private beach, 69 beautifully furnished, nautically influenced bedrooms and the choice of three mouth-wateringly good restaurants (plus, Jamie Olivers Fifteen nearby), Watergate Bay has always been right up there with our pick of boutique hotels in Cornwall. Recently, though, it just got even better, courtesy of a three-million pound refurbishment and now boasts an incredible spa, thanks to dream team Household Design, (who were responsible for the beautiful interiors at Shoreditch House). It's easy to spend all day watching the waves rolling in from the timber Canadian hot tub - thats if you can pull yourself away from the heavenly treatments and the 25-metre ocean-view infinity pool...

St Moritz
Another hotel thats seen a recent refurb (this one to the tune of £15 million) is the gorgeous St Moritz in Trebetherick. The modern white exteriors lead inside to sweeping Art Deco-style staircases, an impressive Cowshed spa and renowned chef James OConnor working his magic in the kitchens. Bedrooms are all white-washed walls with plenty of seaside touches, and it's guaranteed youll be thinking about the enormous sink-into handmade beds long after youve left.

Black Moon
With its picture-postcard location right on the sandy shores of Bamaluz Beach in St Ives, Black Moon is the perfect place for the ultimate spoiling romantic holiday. There are candles and massage oils dotted all over the place, a huge super king-size bed and a full-size bath. You can even descend the wooden stairs to the original stone smuggler's cave, into the apartment's very own self-proclaimed love grotto. Youll probably want to permanently install yourself upstairs, though, sipping champagne and taking in the endless sea views.

The Scarlet
The Scarlet needs little introduction. It just does everything very, very well and a stay is akin to living in a bubble where everything seems impossibly easy. The bedrooms are impeccably designed and as comfortable as they get, with huge beds that look out to sea, freestanding tubs and wooden chairs on your own private balcony. The fresh seafood is some of the best weve tried and finishing the day off with a cocktail in the outdoor log-fired seaweed hot tub is an amazing experience. If youre looking to fall in love all over again, The Scarlet is your place.

Upton House
In fairness, Upton House is more boutique B&B than boutique hotel. What it isn't is average. Far from it, in fact. The boudoir-inspired boutique is run by the lovely Angelique, who's turned the traditional Victorian townhouse into a playful wonderland. Think white leather and Swarovski crystal headboards, suspended Perspex bubble chairs and whirlpool baths looking out to sea. Its full-scale decadence and then some. Just make sure youre a fan of pink...
