Whether it's making a messy half top knot look impeccably chic, pairing a red lip with a plummy smokey eye or bringing old-school glamour to the wet-hair look, we can always rely on Gemma Chan to deliver a modern spin on classic beauty looks.

At tonight's ELLE Style Awards, Chan turned to make-up artist Joey Choy to give the warm-toned, peachy make-up trend of the late 2016s a refined, grown-up twist by pairing it with plum-hued smokey eyes, velvety skin and neutral lips.

Choy's starting point was Chan's pale-blush slip dress by Louis Vuitton. 'Gemma wanted the make-up to look really fresh, so we decided to go with the summer sunset colour palette,' Choy tells ELLE UK. She applied 'a warm, bronzey, molten copper swipe of colour on the eyelid and added a hint of plummy shimmer to highlight the corner of the eyes'.

To avoid the doll-like effect of a pink blush, Choy opted for a peachy hue to 'give a healthy glow to the look' and enliven Chan's golden undertones. 'Gemma's got amazing cheekbones so I did a "cheekbone blush". I applied it on the apple of the cheeks and blended upward towards the temple,' says Choy. A swipe of satin lipstick in a muted rose tone ties the look together. Try L'Oréal Paris Color Riche Satin lipstick in Beige A Nu for a similar effect.

Hairstylist Neil Moodie took a cue from Chan's late-summer peach-girl vibes by creating soft waves that felt 'natural and casual'. He gave her strands a good spritz of Oway Sea Salt Spray before diffusing it to create texture.

'Then, we went through the hair with a large curling iron to pick out the natural waves that had formed with the diffuser,' Moodie tells ELLE UK. For that laissez-faire finish, Moodie used a combination of Hair By Sam McKnight Modern Hairspray and Cool Girl Texture Hair Mist.
