Karl Lagerfeld's final Chanel show in Paris was an emotional, yet ultimately joyous, celebration of the German designer's legacy at the French fashion house.

In true Lagerfeld style, the Grand Palais was transformed into an alpine wonderland, complete with wooden chalets and snowy mountain peaks - a scene that the late designer's fashion house dubbed, 'Chalet Gardenia.'

At the close of the epic Autumn Winter spectacular, models Soo Joo, Mica Argañaraz, Cara Delevingne, Mariacarla Boscono and Cat McNeil led the walk for the finale.

Moving down the runway to David Bowie's 'Heroes' (the same track that closed Lagerfeld's final Fendi show during Milan Fashion Week), both Boscono and McNeil wept as they walked.

Hopefully the models find some closure in being able to pay homage to their friend in such a special way.

ELLE UK's Cat Callendar, present for the momentous occasion said of the atmosphere in the alpine setting, 'That crispness that you get in the mountains and the uplifting feel that you get skiing or in a snowy environment is what is going on here. It is sad, yes as this is a post Karl moment, but the feeling in here is uplifting and light.'

After a sombre moment of silence, the show commenced with one of Lagerfeld's most cherished muses, Cara Delevingne, opened the show.
