Among the famous faces that set foot inside 30 Avenue Montaigne this week, for Dior's Haute Couture AW19 show, was celebrated author and feminist activist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Adichie, of course, has a special relationship with the French fashion house. A relationship that dates back to September 2016 when - for her debut collection with the brand - Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri called upon Adichie for her help.

Among the fencing-inspired pieces and sparkling ballet skirts, was a slogan t-shirt packing a punch. The t-shirt read 'We Should All Be Feminists' and was a direct reference to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's TEDx talk on the future of feminism.

Speaking from the front row of this July's Dior Haute Couture runway show, Adichie speaks candidly for the first time about what made her agree to let Maria Grazia Chiuri make use of her words in the context of a fashion show.

'Feminism is still very contested and very controversial,' explains Achichie in the video, 'And still very much loaded with negative stereotypes.'

'A t-shirt is not going to change the world, right?' she continues, 'But, I think change happens when we spread ideas.'

'We have a young generation who are also thinking about sexism. We have young women who have experienced things, but they don't have the language. If you have a t-shirt that says 'feminist', it's giving them an entry to having a language to talk about things they have already experienced.'
