How To Thread A Sewing Machine

  1. Read through your sewing machine manual, which should give full instructions on how to thread your specific sewing machine.
  2. Place your thread onto the spool so your thread runs anti-clockwise and control how much thread you are pulling with your right hand.
  3. Pull your thread through the thread guide and down the right thread line that has tension discs inside and up the left thread line.
  4. Loop your thread through the take-up lever (if you can't see the lever, turn your hand wheel towards you until it appears) then back down the left thread line.
  5. Pass your thread through the hook on the left side of your needle, thread your needle from front to back and place your thread under you pressure foot.

Top Tips On How To Thread Your Sewing Machine

  • 'If you're confused about how to thread your sewing machine, remember: The thread should follow a backwards "N" pattern.'
  • 'Make sure the needle is up at its highest point. You can do this by turning the small wheel on the right hand side of your machine towards you.'
  • 'Use a nice sharp pair of scissors to snip the end of your thread, It's easier to thread through the needle this way.'
  • 'Ensure your machine is switched off while you are threading up. It’s easy for your foot to slip on the peddle causing the machine to start whizzing away.'
