Update Tuesday 17th September: He might be a self-confessed Game of Thrones fan but Prince William just attended a public exhibition celebrating all the best UK films and TV shows, including The Favourite and Killing Eve.

On Monday, the royal officially opened the exhibit – titled BAFTA: Behind The Scenes
– and was presented with a pair of the children’s pop art pyjamas worn by Killing Eve’s star Jodie Comer in the second series of the show.

‘We gave him a pair of Villanelle’s pyjamas,’ producer Sally Woodward Gentle told reporters. ‘They are the ones with the cartoon all over them. She wears them in episodes one and two — they are a little boy’s pajamas which she nicks, and she wears. They have got “Kapow!” And cartoony stuff all over them.’

Woodward Gentle added that they are meant to be worn ‘quite small’, adding: ‘But they are adult-sized. We had them made up especially for the show. We had a few made up, and that’s the last pair left.’

According to the film expert, Prince William told season one costume designer Phoebe de Gaye that he has watched the entire series.

‘We didn’t test him, but he did say it was quite a final ending to series two,’ she noted.

‘So at least he watched the last three minutes of the last episode! He said he loved it. He talked about the dark humour of it, and Jodie and Sandra [Oh, her co-star], how amazing they both are. And he talked about the humour you can get through the costumes, which is what Phoebe [de Gaye] is so clever at.’

Whether it was the fuchsia-coloured tulle Molly Goddard dress from season one or the bright blue, pop-art-printed pyjamas emblazoned with words such as ‘pow’ and ‘crash’ in season two, there isn’t a Killing Eve viewer out there who hasn’t coveted the assassin’s wardrobe.

So, imagine our excitement when we learnt that BAFTA is launching a new exhibition in London featuring the costumes worn by actor and previous ELLE UK's May 2019 cover star Jodie Comer (who plays serial killer Villanelle) in the hit BBC drama.

The film and television academy recently announced that the exhibition is open from Tuesday 17th September and feature De Gaye’s most renowned looks from the show.

And yes, that does mean you’ll finally be able to set your eyes on that Goddard dress paired with the original Balenciaga black boots worn by Comer in one of the first episodes from the show.

Speaking about her character in the series, in our May 2019 issue, Comer, told us: ‘I wish I was as bold as her.

‘What I love about Villanelle is that she has a particular style. I feel like if you look through her wardrobe, there’s a definite theme running through it.’

According to BAFTA, the exhibition (which is free, FYI) will celebrate ‘the creativity and talent of BAFTA winners and nominees, featuring annotated scripts, handcrafted models, audio-visual displays and costumes’.

Other items on display at the exhibition include the crafted hair and make-up design for The Favourite, the shooting script from David Lean’s film Summertime and actor Chiwetel Ejiofor's research for his BAFTA-winning role as Solomon Northrup in the 2014 Steve McQueen film, 12 Years A Slave.

The exhibition will be open for two years and be regularly updated to reflect the range of crafts and awards categories by the academy.

‘Our ever-changing exhibition will shine a light on these nominees and their personal journeys, inspiring visitors to BAFTA Piccadilly as well as the next generation of talent that BAFTA nurtures, develops and supports year-round,’ says Amanda Berry OBE, chief executive of BAFTA.
