To celebrate the Venice Film Festival's 80th year, luxury French watch and jewellery brand Cartier has thrown the party of fashion dreams, and the best bit? We were invited for a sneak peek inside.

On September 1, guests including Paul Mescal and former ELLE UK cover star Emma Corrin gathered at the world-famous Ca’Giustinian, a palace which sits on the Grand Canal of Venice and is known today as the head office of La Biennale di Venezia, the foundation which hosts the festival.

An array of emerging and esteemed film stars, directors and an all round star-studded guest list gathered to commemorate the Festival, which commenced on August 30 and will end on September 9.

The event itself was the epitome of elegance and sophistication, much like its host, Cartier. As attendees arrived to the evening event, a rare blue moon dawned on the open Venetian waters, guests were greeted by a red carpet and retro film still from the 1960s.

Topping off the night in true cinematic fashion, the Academy Award winning composer Justin Hurwitz, who is best known for composing the music for Oscar-winning La La Land and Babylon, performed at the party.

Just as impressive as the venue and entertainment for the occasion, the celebrity guests did not disappoint in bringing equal amounts of glamour and glitz to the occasion.

For instance, actor Mescal was spotted wearing Cartier’s Juste un Clou earring, a Grain de Café brooch, the famous Love ring and a Tank Louis watch. Meanwhile, Corrin was dressed head-to-toe in Miu Miu and styled her look with Cartier’s Reflection earrings, Reflection bracelet and the Baignoire de Cartier watch. Maude Apatow was spotted wearing a demure Giorgio Armani gown, which she opted to accessorise with Cartier High jewellery earrings, a Reflection de Cartier bracelet, and a Cartier Collection ring.

Since 2021 Cartier has been the official partner of the Venice International Film Festival, which speaks to the brand's strong cultural commitment to the arts. For almost a century, Cartier has been the go-to jeweller for cinema, and has had its pieces feature in legendary film scenes.

In 1946, John Cocteau called on Cartier to make Josette Day cry tears of diamonds in Beauty and the Beast, and in 1956, Grace Kelly was seen wearing a ring gifted by her husband, Prince Rainier.

In more recent years, Ocean's 8 was known for featuring a replica of the 1931 Toussaint necklace, while The Luckiest Girl Alive saw Mila Kunis wear the Panthère de Cartier watch, and the Cartier Love bracelet.
