Dafne Keen's Cannes Film Festival 2023 Diary: What The 'His Dark Materials' Star Got Up To
The Spanish-British actor took ELLE UK along for her first visit to Cannes with Paco Rabanne.
At just 18, Dafne Keen has accomplished more than most. With Critic's Choice Awards and BAFTA Cymru nominations, and an envy-inducing IMDB page already under her belt, the Spanish-British actor has plenty to write home about. And so we asked her, to write home that is, giving ELLE UK an exclusive diary of her first trip to Cannes Film Festival. There as a guest of iconic fashion house Paco Rabanne, the His Dark Materials star Keen gave us a behind-the-scenes look at her getting ready process for the brand's events.
Day 1
'I arrived in Cannes mid morning and it was very sunny and warm. I remember looking out and noticing how many palm trees there were and how beautiful the landscape was.
'My first day was very hectic, I ran around town and tried to sort things out like getting my shoes very last minute from Jimmy Choo.'
Day 2
'On the morning of the second day, I had some time off so I went into the old town and I just walked by myself, me and my camera.
'Visiting the Old Town made me feel quite at home, quite like Madrid, where I come from.'

'I had to do some content creation for Paco Rabanne, for their fragrance FAME. So we went to the showroom.'

'We then shot me in the pieces I picked out and I got to carry out my creative vision. Everyone was really, really lovely. The stylist and photographer and all the Paco team were wonderful.'

'I went back to my hotel and I got ready.'

'I picked an outfit for the beach party from the same showroom.'

'I got to pick out a tonne of really cool pieces to shoot and wear.'

'There were lots of people at the party and I tried to network as much as I could . It was a really nice event, with cool music and very, very cool people.'

'It was such an honour to get to photograph my day with ELLE UK - I've been really into photography since I was very, very young.'

'The Cannes experience was shorter than I would have liked. It was very hectic, but really wonderful, exciting and different to anything I've ever done before. I felt so honoured to be there with Paco and I just felt very overwhelmed the entire time.'
