Some girls just seem to be born for long, hot summer days and wafting around in beer gardens. They float through heatwaves in dreamy midi dresses, or simple tees and denim cut-offs, with their glowing skin and natural, beachy hair.
We spoke to some of our favourite summer girls to get their tips on effortless warm weather dressing, and picked out some new season pieces from Very's holiday collection, to inspire our own summer wardrobes.
Try white on white
"I love huge linen shirts over denim shorts, or white T-shirts tucked into baggy linen trousers," says style blogger Lizzy Hadfield. "I’m not a huge follower of trends but one of the looks I am most excited for this summer are long slip dresses with some leather flip flops; really simple but chic. That's how you make it look effortless - know what styles flatter you and keep the colour palette simple."
Or go head-to-toe colour
"I love co-ords, dresses and jumpsuits in bold colourful prints and, every now and then, I’ll add a dash of clean white summer linens," explains New Yorker Cynthia. "And I’m all about my accessories, like layered gold necklaces (I like super yellow gold.) I'm also wearing anklets (again), mules and small woven/basket bags.
"I think effortless style comes once you find your zone - styles you love and are comfortable in - and you’re not trying to be someone else."
Work the one-piece
"Years of covering up in the heat had left me dreading summer, but now I’ve discovered what works for me, I keep it simple and dress for the weather. Life’s too short to be uncomfortable," says Em Smyth. "Summer for me is all about well-fitting pieces in natural fabrics. I like my look to be quite timeless and synthetic fabrics + warm weather are NOT a good mix."
Add some Gallic attitude
"I love mixing the timeless French style with some more grungy vibes," says French stylist Anaelle Claudet. "I think certain classic pieces can finish any outfit. You can wear the most basic look, and just add a cool biker jacket, printed blazer, or vintage T-shirt et voilà!
"For an everyday summer look, I’ll go for a white tee, some cool jeans and a pair of backless mules. I also love the satin midi skirt trend at the moment - for me, the more colourful the better."
Holiday en beige
"My summer look is tan safari shorts, a super oversized shirt, strappy sandals and a woven bag," explains Jessie Bush from We The People Style. "This year, I'll either be wearing all the beige - beige shorts, beige shirt and a big floppy tan hat - or bold neons, chunky sandals and maybe even a little tie-dye for retro Californian vibes.
"Summer dressing should feel easy and relaxed. Don’t mess around with swimwear you need to constantly rearrange or dresses that you need to hike down."
Channel Armie Hammer
"Armie Hammer in Call Me By Your Name is my summer inspiration," declares Brittany Bathgate. "Less is always more in my opinion. I like to let a bold shoe or a bold dress speak for itself and leave it at that. The summer trends feel really practical at the moment - comfy walking sandals and practical hats are everywhere. My summer look is probably a big boxy dress, something quite full and voluminous, paired with a chunky sandal for balance."
Go vintage
"I’ll be wearing more lighter colours and animal print this summer," says Yanin Namasonthi. "But, usually I'll wear something like vintage denim shorts, a band tee or printed shirt and some boots. I keep it quite simple and elevate the look with accessories."
