Claire Foy is set to receive £200,000 in back pay after it was recently revealed that the actress was paid less than co-star Matt Smith for 'The Crown'.

A source revealed to the Daily Mail, 'The difference in the wages between Matt and Claire in the 20 episodes of the show so far was backdated. It has all been amicably resolved.'

Despite her lead role as Queen Elizabeth II in the Netflix series, producers reportedly paid Smith - who played the Duke of Edinburgh - £10,000 more than Foy per one-hour episode.

The gender pay-gap disparity came to light during the INTV Conference when producers were asked if Smith received a higher wage packet than his female co-star.

Producers initially defended their decision, as a consequence to Smith's Doctor Who fame. But as a consequence to understandable outcry, the show's creative director, Suzanne Mackie, eventually confirmed: 'Going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen'.

At a recent CinemaCon event, Foy spoke out about the 'embarrassing' ordeal.

'I certainly won’t be naïve about those things,' the 34-year-old said. 'It’s really opened my eyes about what I am allowed to have an opinion about, and what I’m allowed to stand up for myself about. And I think that’s really changed my approach to myself and other women in this industry. It’s been only a positive thing - even though, embarrassing.'

Left Bank Pictures - the company behind the production of the award-winning show - has now accepted full responsibility for the pay-gap scandal and has since apologised to both Foy and Smith.
