When Hollywood royalty and literal royalty collide, the results are pretty spectacular. And no encounter quite encompasses this like the meeting between Queen Elizabeth II and beloved actress Marilyn Monroe.
Recently surfaced footage shows Monroe in a greeting line with her husband Arthur Miller, waiting for Her Majesty to shake their hands at the London premiere of The Battle of the River Plate in Leicester Square on October 29, 1956. The women's outfits are completely different yet equally glamorous, with the Queen wearing a long, off-the-shoulder gown in a dark shade and Marilyn Monroe donning a stunning, low-cut metallic gown that showed off her figure. They did have one element in common: Each wore gorgeous, long gloves.
Ready for the wildest part? Both women were 30 when they met in 1956, meaning they would be the same age if Monroe was still alive today.
Another fun detail about the trip: Monroe and Miller were also in England to film the 1957 rom-com The Prince and the Showgirl, but they overpacked a little, according to the Daily Mail. Okay, a lot: The pair had 27 pieces of excess luggage with them, resulting in $1,500 in fines, which amounts to a staggering $17,000 in today's dollars. And you thought you were bad at consolidating bags on family vacations!
